Welcome to
Black Cactus Choir is a modern community choir, based in Colchester, Essex. Music and community are at the heart of all we do, bringing people together through the joy of singing.
With around 100 members, we sing harmony-rich versions of everything from classic rock, to musical theatre, to gospel, to pop bangers.
We love to sing songs and create a sound that connects emotionally, uplifts and energises both us and our audiences.

Fundraising
In 2024 we started our fundraising journey. Sue Stockley (mother of founder Alex) was diagnosed with a brain tumour and admitted to St Elizabeth Hospice in Ipswich. To raise funds for and awareness of the hospice, we wrote and recorded a charity single “Lighthouse” and hosted a Christmas charity concert at St Botolph’s Church. This campaign raised around £7000 for the hospice.
In 2025 we chose local charity Lighthouse Women’s Aid as the focus of our fundraising efforts, raising over £3000 as well as donating various appeal collections. We also released a new single “TALK!” in collaboration with SANE UK and recording artist Jennifer Owens.

Our dedicated committee organise fundraising events. We love working with local charities and commit ourselves to one every year. In 2026 we are donating to Colchester Anti Loo Roll Brigade.
